Outdoor Media Summit 2024
10-Year Outlook For the U.S. Outdoor Industry: A sobering if not unsettling perspective on a very difficult time ahead, but also how to find the opportunities amidst the challenges and positioning for the tremendous resurgence that follows.
The U.S. has entered a significant, unprecedented and complex period that will bring about profound and seismic changes across society, culture, economics/financial markets, politics/geopolitics and the environment/sustainability…no one is insulated. But recent groundbreaking research has emerged from pioneering futurists and other subject-matter experts that has given us unmatched insight into the unfolding tapestry of the future, thereby allowing us to position ourselves and our businesses to survive and thrive. In context of this research, the current state of affairs for the world and the U.S. and the direction in which we are progressing, I will provide a sobering if not unsettling 10-year outlook for the U.S. outdoor industry and its public lands, which will be very challenging due to a confluence of factors. Three challenges in particular could decimate the industry, leaving it a shell of what it once was. But the difficulties that lie ahead – which I call “The Reckoning” – will be followed by ‘The Resurgence” and a “New Normal” that could see a U.S. economic rebound the likes we have never before seen. I will provide strategies, tactics, emerging technologies and new business models to help brands transition away from the “Old Normal” we have now that is no longer working and dying, through the difficult Reckoning period, and into the New Normal for the 2030’s and beyond.

I won’t keep this slideshare updated as new information about the future comes available. I will do that with the main slideshare for the outdoor industry 10-year outlook. It is published on my Future Map page.

Review the slideshare: PATH TO NEW NORMAL FOR CONSUMER BRANDS: strategies, tactics, technologies and business models to help navigate The Reckoning and position for The Resurgence and the New Normal. This slideshare is my complete list of strategies, tactics, technologies and business models to help brands transition away from the “Old Normal” we have now that is no longer working and dying, through the difficult transition period I am calling “The Reckoning”, and into the “New Normal” for the 2030’s and beyond. What is published in this slideshare offers a picture of what successful brands will be doing in the New Normal.
For a deeper dive into The Reckoning Period, review the slideshare: BUSINESS CYCLES: Recessions in the 2020’s and Booms in the 2030’s. You can skip this slideshare and instead review a narrative that presents a possible roadmap for how the Reckoning period plays out in the U.S. It rolls up the content in the Business Cycles slideshare into a neater, more organized narrative.
Get more insight into Exponential Technologies and Consumer Shifts by reviewing those slideshares.
If not already done so, please complete the crowdsourced survey on my future map page. This is a great list of questions to help crowdsource the best for all of us.
